Concerns have been raised over new sports facilities planned as part of the Inverness West Link Road.

According to reports, the worries are understood to centre around claims that the facilities could be at significant risk of flooding.

The ambitious £34m link road has been the subject of controversy since it was first proposed, and while the local authority has said it would reduce traffic congestion, others have argued that the link road will cut through a popular green area and damage the existing sports facilities on offer.

In response to this, the Highland Council pledged to create new and improved sports pitches at Torvean as well as a new golf course in the area. An outline planning application has already been submitted, while an agreement in principle has been made to buy land.

Now, however, the BBC has reported that a member of the Council's flood prevention team has said the planned clubhouse and changing rooms for the golf venue could end up submerged in the event of a major flood. There are now suggestions that the proposed facilities should be located elsewhere.

Discussions are understood to be ongoing.
