The Ibrox Subway Station in Glasgow has been officially opened following a £1.7m refurbishment by Graham Construction.

The project forms part of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport's (SPT) multi-million subway modernisation programme of all 15 stations in Glasgow over the next six years.

At Ibrox, refurbishment and improvement works were undertaken and involved replacing all the floor, walls and ceiling materials throughout the station; improved information and general signage for passengers; upgraded passenger facilities and equipment as well as the installation of more efficient lighting.

The project also included improved facilities for disabled passengers and the creation of a new station office, while new roof lights and canopies have been introduced to make the exterior of the building more appealing. Under-utilised space at the station has been developed to allow the introduction of new shops.

Commenting on the project, Gary Holmes, Graham Construction Regional Director, said: "This has been the first project GRAHAM Construction has delivered for SPT and we look forward to continuing that relationship.

"We hope the people using Ibrox will welcome the improvements to their station and we now look forward to delivering a facility of an equally high standard as we prepare to start work at St Enoch Subway station in the coming weeks."

Graham Construction commenced works on the refurbishment of Ibrox Subway Station in March 2013.
