Balfour Beatty's £65.7m Holyrood Student Accommodation project – which constructed 1,165 bedrooms for the University of Edinburgh, was the focus of a recent UK-wide construction industry competition, TeamBuild 2013.
Seven teams of up to six people, representing 26 top construction companies, made it through to the finals of this annual competition held in Buckinghamshire. During the competition weekend, interdisciplinary teams of young building professionals, such as architects, engineers and surveyors, were challenged by various scenarios based on the actual Holyrood project. The aim was to test their collaboration and communication skills.
The teams competed to become 'TeamBuild Champions of the Year', and receive a £1,500 prize.
Balfour Beatty judge Audrey Gilmour, Senior Design Manager, said: "It was fascinating to observe the teams working on scenarios based on our live project. TeamBuild provides a fantastic opportunity for young professionals to develop and build collaborative relationships.
"It has been inspirational to watch relationships and personalities develop during the weekend as individuals come together to form cohesive and dynamic teams."
