Two new primary schools are to be built at Bishopbriggs and Lenzie respectively.

East Dunbartonshire has said the proposals are as follows:

Lenzie: To close Lenzie Primary School and Lenzie Moss Primary School and build a new primary school on the Lenzie Moss site.

Bishopbriggs: To close Auchinairn Primary School and Woodhill Primary School and build a new primary school on the Woodhill Primary site.

As both proposals involve school closures, in line with the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2012, the Scottish Government must now be notified of the decision. Ministers will then have six weeks to decide if they will call the decision in for review. The public may make further representations to Ministers during the first three weeks of this period.

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said: "This Council decision brings two new schools a step closer to reality for our primary school children.

"From the outset of our Primary School Improvement Programme we have sought the views of the school and wider communities, firstly through informal consultation, followed by the statutory consultation process.

"We have listened to the comments and concerns that have been raised and the proposals we have now agreed address many of them."

She added: "The purpose of our Primary School Improvement Programme is to address the issues we face in our primary schools, including under occupancy and increasing running costs and to also address those schools that are in need of substantial future investment."
