A notice of a Formal Order for the Huntly Flood Protection Scheme, has been published by Aberdeenshire Council.
The proposed flood alleviation scheme, which is valued at £2.9m, would mitigate the flooding of residential, non-residential, commercial and agricultural land in the town.
The move is a first for Aberdeenshire and is necessary to deliver a scheme which will protect the town more quickly following slow negotiations with landowners. The Order would also provide the local authority with more powers to secure entry to the land required to build the scheme.
The proposals are designed to reduce any future flood risk in the Meadows area of the town, and would cater for flooding caused by the River Deveron and its tributaries - the Ittingstone Burn and the Meadow Burn.
