Improvements For East Renfrew Homes

Construction News Image
Residents in East Renfrewshire could benefit from home improvement initiatives, the local authority has said.

The £500,000 'mixed tenure improvement scheme' has also been carried out at some shared blocks in the area, with almost 100 homes in Barrhead and Neilston benefitting.

The Council has said residents of mixed blocks are able to suggest what work they think needs done to a property, with almost 200 people coming forward to request improvements such as garden clearance or close painting. Other improvements includes fences being repairs or paths being improved.

The award-winning scheme aims to tackle housing blocks where there is a mix of council tenants, owner occupiers and private lets, by creating visible and long-lasting improvements to shared areas.

In Barrhead, 71 gardens are currently being maintained under the scheme, with a further nine in Neilston. A number of closes have recently been painted in Barrhead and improvements are planned to paved areas, while around 10 closes are scheduled for Neilston in the next six weeks.

Convener for Housing, Councillor Danny Devlin, said: "The mixed tenure scheme is a great example of an effective partnership between all those who work hard to make a difference within our communities.

"Not only has the scheme had a visible improvement for local communities, it has wider benefits for the local economy through sustaining businesses and providing employment for our young people."
