East Ayrshire Council has said essential building works are to be carried out at The Cross, Galston.
As a result of the works, Cross Street will be closed until 7am on Thursday 16 January. This is to allow the construction of scaffolding at The Cooperative (7-9 Cross Street) where emergency repairs are needed at the building.
In December, the site was issued a dangerous buildings notice by the local authority after a number of serious structural faults were detected. The building was evacuated and temporary scaffolding plus a partial closure of the road were enforced for public protection while an assessment was made and a contractor appointed by the Cooperative.
Once the scaffolding has been erected, pedestrians will be able to access Cross Street along designated walkways , with one lane of the road being reopened to vehicles.
The temporary repairs, which are being commissioned and undertaken by the Co-operative in conjunction with Building Standards and the council's appointed structural engineers, are expected to be completed next month.
