Argyll and Bute Council have released an update regarding the Helenburgh CHORD Project.

Phase Two of the scheme commenced earlier this month, with improvement work beginning in Colquhoun Square. As part of the work, the existing hard surfaces, planted and turfed areas, and footpaths needed to be removed. Now that this has started, the bus stops in the square are temporarily closed.

Work on Sinclair Street car park, which includes the resurfacing and installation of new lighting and ticket machines, was due to begin on 6 January but this has since been delayed. It will now start in March.

Commenting on the project, Policy Lead for Special Projects, Councillor Ellen Morton, said: "This is a good example of the council and the contractor listening to the views of the public and being flexible with the schedule of works so that we can try and minimise any disruption for residents and visitors.

"The pier car park was flooded during the recent bad weather and is in danger of being flooded again - there is little point in directing people to a car park they cannot use. As such we decided to hold off on the work in the Sinclair Street car park until the better weather to maximise the amount of parking available in the town.

"This is not a delay, rather it is an example of the council listening to the views of the public and being flexible with the schedule of works."
