A new state-of-the-art community centre has opened in Auchendinny, Midlothian.
The £1.2m facility – the Glencorse Centre – is located near north west Penicuik and was developed by the Glencorse Association, with support from the local authority, the Scottish Rural Development Programme and Charity Bank.
The centre features a multi-use hall, meeting room, cafe, changing rooms, football pitch and a floodlit astro-turf pitch.
To construct the centre, the Glencorse Association received two grants; a £386,000 developer contribution, connected with the sale of the Dalmore Paper Mill site in the village, came via Midlothian Council and an additional £823,000 grant was offered by the Scottish Rural Development Programme. Charity Bank provided bridging finance during the construction phase.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Provost Joe Wallace said: "It's a pleasure to come and see the new centre in all its glory. It really is a fantastic modern, fit for purpose building which will transform the local community and the range of activities available for local residents and visitors who will come from further afield."
