A footbridge located over River Findhorn at Broom of Moy, Moray, is to temporarily close later this month.
The closure – which will be in place for one day – is essential to allow construction work to be completed.
The bridge is part of the £40m Forres (River Findhorn and Pilmuir) flood alleviation scheme. It was opened in September 2013, ahead of schedule. The early opening was achieved by inserting a temporary infill panel between the old and new sections of the bridge. Now, the closure on Wednesday 22 January, will allow the temporary panel to be replaced by a permanent panel.
The original bridge was first opened in 1948 and provided a short cut for pedestrians and cyclists travelling between Broom of Moy and Forres. Its replacement is more than three times the length and spans the entire width of any likely floodwater.
Work on the flood alleviation scheme itself is due to be completed in spring 2015, the council has said.
