Dumfries and Galloway Council has announced a programme of major road works for the new year. The works will be carried out at the Shakespeare Street/Nith Place/Irish Street/St Michael Street junction in Dumfries in early 2014.
Commencing on Monday 6 January and will include traffic signal refurbishment, minor kerb realignments, road surfacing and road markings. The second phase of works – to prepare for resurfacing and markings – will begin on Sunday 19 January and is expected to last up to one week. During this stage, the road will be closed between Irish Street and Whitesands. The traffic flow on St Michael Street, between Shakespeare Street and Brooms Road, will be reversed and traffic diverted to St Michael's Bridge Road and Dockhead.
There will be no access from Irish Street to Nith Place and traffic will exit by Assembly Street.
