Streetscape works in Galashiels are to be temporarily suspended over the Christmas period to minimise disruption.
The local authority said in a statement that a majority of the pavement widening works in the town's High Street will be completed before the break. The new facilities planned for the area will provide increased loading facilities and space for trees to be introduced.
The contractor will return to the High Street in January 214 to finish the works, which includes the installation of stone bollards and road resurfacing improvements.
Work commenced on the project in October this year and are part of the final infrastructure improvement scheme of the Galashiels Inner Relief Road - GIRR 4 - which is being delivered to realise the benefits of removing through traffic from the town centre.
