It has been reported that a second council has opposed plans for a proposed wind farm in southern Scotland.

Dumfries and Galloway Council are now understood to have joined Scottish Borders Council in opposing the plans for the Earlshaugh site, the BBC has reported.

The developer, Wind Energy Ltd, has already reduced the number of turbines planned for the wind farm, from 36 to 22.

While the local authorities have voiced their opposition, the final decision on the development resides with the Scottish Government.

The site near to where the turbines are planned - the Devil's Beef Tub - would be located in the Scottish Borders but the main access route is in Dumfries and Galloway which is why both authorities have been consulted on the plans.

Wind Energy has said the site offers an "excellent wind resource" and could benefit the local economy financially, but the councils are not sure the benefits outweigh the visual impact.
