Moray Council has said it has awarded a contract to carry out repairs to a damaged seawall at Lossiemouth.

The contract has been awarded to North Shields-based firm, Southbay Civil Engineering Ltd.

Last December, severe weather conditions saw large waves breach the seawall which caused damage to Station Park. A temporary wall was constructed from precast concrete blocks to make the area safe until a permanent solution was designed. The repairs will now involve the use of reinforced concrete and sandstone cladding to match the existing wall.

The local authority has said Southbay will carry out temporary work in order to avert further deterioration before the main repair work commences in the New Year.

The work is expected to cost around £450,000 with the Scottish Government's fisheries harbour repair grant scheme meeting 50% of the cost.

A spokesman for Moray Council said: "We are pleased to be working in partnership with Southbay Civil Engineering whose specialist knowledge in the marine and harbour environment contributed in winning the contract."
