A multi-million pound development in Lomondgate, near Dumbarton, has received a commendation award.
The award was in the new public and private partnership category at the Scottish Government's 2013 Quality in Planning Awards.
There was praise for West Dunbartonshire Council, Walker Group (Scotland) and Strathleven Regeneration CIC, with the judges saying: "Lomondgate has been revitalised through a strong, successful partnership for over 10 years. Right from the beginning, the vision was to always view the development as a long-term investment. As a result, the physical changes that have taken place are testament to a public and private partnership making things happen."
The site has created 237 new homes, a 60-room Premier Inn, a Brewers Fayre pub restaurant (the Malt & Myre) and a drive-through Costa coffee outlet, while Aggreko is the first major employer to be attracted to the Business Park with its new manufacturing facility and offices.
Councillor Martin Rooney, Council Leader and Board member of Strathleven Regeneration Company, said: "Lomondgate is a fantastic example of how a Council can work with private companies and partners to drive economic regeneration. We can all see the amazing transformation of this site every day and I'm delighted that it is also a high quality regeneration involving major national and international companies."
Mike Edward, Development Director, Walker Group, added: "The foundation of a solid, working relationship with the Council has enabled the Partnership to position Lomondgate as an attractive environment for growth and investment and we are proud of the level of development secured in a relatively short period of time and against a backdrop of tough economic conditions. There are few Scottish developments that have enjoyed such success."
