Residents Asked To Name Former Library

Inverclyde Council is asking its residents to help rename its former library.

There are currently plans to move the former library headquarters building at Clyde Square.

The building was home to the library headquarters for the town from its creation in the 1960s, but the new headquarters will be housed in nearby Wallace Place. With the building empty, it is now being remodelled to create some much-needed office space in the town centre and will house the community health and care partnership staff.

As a result, the local authority has set up an online survey to ask residents for their views on a new name for the building. They can either choose from suggestions already made, or contribute their own.

Councillor Joe Mcllwee, Inverclyde's Health and Social Care Convener, said: "The former library building is a typically 60s building which architects at the time will have looked at as a futuristic design.

"Now that it is no longer being used as a library, our property management team and the community health and care partnership are working together to bring it back into use. With the library headquarters moving to Wallace Place in the town centre, it wouldn't be right to stick with the library name for this, and that's why we need a new one."

The former library building is expected to re-open as the community health and care partnership offices in 2014.
