The works will help protect the local community and environment, as well as complying the waste water treatment regulations. In addition, the project will play an important role in protecting the natural environment of Forfar Loch.
Having commenced in April this year, the works to the facility were carried out by Scottish Water Solutions.
Commenting on the scheme, Stuart Marsden, Project Manager, Scottish Water Solutions, said: "Scottish Water is delighted to have completed this major investment in this important waste water treatment facility in Angus. The facility serves a population equivalent of 30,000 which is a combination of Forfar's 13,500 residents and local businesses.

"The upgrade will provide improved levels of treatment that will ensure we continue to help protect and enhance the natural environment of Forfar Loch. We had looked at using a system where sand filters would be used to offer a third layer of treatment, but a specialist team in Scottish Water recommended that we enhance the existing treatment processes.
"It will also ensure that the discharge from the works meets regulatory requirement set out by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA). We have reduced the amount of ammonia in the final treated effluent and the biochemical oxygen demand (B.O.D) on the receiving watercourse, Forfar Loch."
