A new all-weather pitch has been officially opened in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire.

The new pitch can accommodate a wide range of activities, such as hockey, multi-sports, football and athletics, and will be available for both community and school use throughout the year.

In a statement, the local authority said the project was a good example of community partnership between Aberdeenshire Council, Mid Deeside Limited and Aboyne Community Development Group.

Councillor Ron McKail, who attended the opening, said: "This facility enables the school and community groups to train and be physically active all year round, which should help improve the skills and well-being of all concerned.

"This is a good example of partnership working that will greatly enhance Aberdeenshire Council's healthy living agenda."

ELL Chair, Isobel Davidson, added: "The idea of an all weather pitch in Aboyne was first discussed by the local community and Aberdeenshire Council three years ago.

"It is great to see everyone coming together and working well to bring this new facility to fruition, benefitting Aboyne and surrounding communities."
