Proposed works to regenerate Gourock town centre are "on track", it has been reported.

Riverside Inverclyde's Interim Chair, Councillor David Wilson, welcomed the news, saying: "Following recent constructive negotiations with Network Rail, we are now able to move the project onto its next stage of preparing detailed information for the tendering of works."

According to Inverclyde Council, the works are expected to commence in summer 2014, with a specific start date subject to the formal statutory process that Network Rail must undergo.

As a result of the works, the company has said it is pleased that parking spaces for passengers will increase from 112 to 149.

Councillor Wilson added: "Inverclyde Council and Riverside Inverclyde are making good progress working as partners on this key initiative for the area. As the process evolves, we'll be keeping businesses and residents fully informed of the programme of works."

Gourock town centre is an Inverclyde Council project and is being delivered by Riverside Inverclyde.
