Trump Wind Farm Hearing Begins

Plans by Donald Trump to challenge plans for a proposed offshore wind farm in Aberdeenshire are due to begin.

In a four-day hearing at the Court of Session, the BBC has reported that the US billionaire will attempt to overturn a Scottish Government decision to build the development near his Aberdeenshire golf course.

The plans for the wind farm would see 11 turbines constructed, and Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group – who is the developer – said it could power up to 49,000 homes.

Challenging the project, however, Mr Trump has said the turbines will spoil the view for guests at his golf resort in Menie. The business tycoon had plans in place to build a hotel, residential village and holiday homes on the site, but has currently shelved the plans.

Ministers approved the proposals for the wind farm on 26 March.

A petition was subsequently lodged by Trump International Golf Links and the Trump Organisation, asking the court to declare that the decision was unlawful.
