One of the three final bidders to construct the new general hospital in Dumfries has dropped out, it has been reported.
NHS Dumfries and Galloway confirmed that Skanska had withdrawn its interest in the £200m project, according to the BBC.
Their decision means Balfour Beatty and High Wood Health (Laing O'Rourke) are the two firms left in the process.
A preferred bidder for the project is expected to be named by late summer 2014.
It is then hoped work on the 350-bed hospital can commence in 2015, with a scheduled opening for spring 2018.
NHS Dumfries and Galloway's chief operating officer Julie White acknowledged Skanska's contribution to the project. She added that the body will work with the two remaining teams to develop a detailed design of the new facility.
