More than 300 affordable homes for rent could be built in Dundee, it has been revealed.
The homes could also include more council houses.
The news follows a recent announcement by the Scottish Government that confirmed a further £3.6m had been made available to construct affordable housing in 2015/16.
John Alexander, Convener of Dundee City Council's Housing Committee explained: "I am delighted that we can now move ahead with providing more affordable houses for rent in the city.
"It means we can keep up the rapid pace of regeneration currently well underway in Lochee, Whitfield, Mill o Mains and the Hilltown beyond 2015 for another four years.
"This subsidy allows us to start detailed planning for building more new council homes and lets our partners in the Registered Social Landlord sector increase their programmes of new build."
The council, in partnership with the Scottish Government and Registered Social Landlords, is already spending around £10m to provide more than 160 new affordable rented homes in Mill o'Mains, Whitfield and Lochee up to 2015.
The houses are high quality energy efficient homes which reduce running costs for residents.
