Concerns were raised regarding the Mill Lade Soakaway when it was discovered it was not functioning to its full capacity. The local authority, Aberdeenshire Council, has now employed a contractor to repair and increase the capacity of the soakaway to divert water away from the existing Mill Lade. Excavation work will also be carried out, and new pipework installed to help move the water away effectively, while inspection chambers are to be created.

Bruce Plant have been appointed for the project, with work expected to begin at the end of this week.
The council has said the town's boardwalk may need to temporarily close while construction work is being carried out.
Rachel Kennedy, Principal Engineer (Flood Protection Works), explained: "While the work on the Mill Lade should have an effect on water levels, this is not a solution to the issues the town faces and should be seen in conjunction with the other engineering solutions being proposed.
"We listened to local residents who were keen to see this work take place and have moved swiftly to get it done before the start of winter proper."
In a statement, Aberdeenshire Council also said work is shortly due to begin on another measure to reduce the impact of flooding in the Old Town.
