Angus Council has welcomed the recent news of a funding commitment by the Scottish Government to help build new affordable housing.

The £9.39m fund, which will be available from 2015 to 2019, will provide grants of around £46,000 per home for Angus Council, and approximately £58,000 per house for its housing association partners.

Over the next two years, the local authority and its associated partners are investing more than £12m to construct up to 100 houses as part of the Affordable Housing Supply Programme, run in partnership with the Scottish Government. In addition to the new properties, the projects will create further employment and training opportunities.

Council spokesperson, Councillor Donald Morrison, said: "We've been speaking with the Government about our need to plan over the longer term and we are delighted that the Government has listened.

"The grants will enable over 200 new homes to be built across Angus and crucially, the lead-in time will give us the ability to carefully plan our investment so that we can target it to the areas most in need."
