More than £1m of upgrades could be approved for properties across Dundee next week.

The local authority has said contracts – totalling £1.2m – to install controlled entry systems at more than 160 blocks could be awarded to local company, McGill Electrical.

John Alexander, Convener of Dundee City Council's Housing Committee said: "Through our partnering agreement for construction projects and the council's tendering procedures we are happy to be able to recommend a local company for this work.

"The improvements, which form part of our drive to bring all of Dundee's houses up to the Scottish Housing Quality Standard, will benefit tenants all over the city, as well as keep local tradesmen in work."

The proposed works include the installation of controlled entries to 164 blocks, which contains 954 flats across Dundee.
