Britain In Bloom Award for Glenrothes

Glenrothes, in Fife, has been awarded Gold in the large town category at this year's Britain in Bloom Awards.

It is the second time the town has won the award.

Commenting on the winner, the judges said the town "was a floral delight, with other excellent community and environmental involvement and interests."

Staff of Fife Councils Parks, Streets and Open Spaces team for Glenrothes were congratulated on winning the RHS Britain in Bloom Horticultural Award, which is presented to the finalist that "demonstrated the best horticultural displays throughout the entry."

Margaret Reilly, Chairperson of Glenrothes in Bloom said: "We are over the moon, winning gold is a very significant award for Glenrothes. It would not have been possible without the commitment of Take a Pride in Glenrothes and the continued support of our sponsors, Fife Council and all of the community volunteers involved."

Chair of the Glenrothes Area Committee, Councillor Altany Craik, added: "Congratulations to the many people who have given generously of their time and energies and this award is a well-deserved recognition for their efforts."

The result means that the town will be invited to compete in the Champion of Champions category at next year's ceremony for the most coveted award of the competition.

Elsewhere, Aberdour was also recognised at the ceremony, coming away with Gold and Category Winner awards in the Coastal category (for areas with a population less than 12,000).
