East Dunbartonshire Council has welcomed the Scottish Government's announcement that it is to receive an additional £160,000 to top up its Discretionary Housing Payments.
Discretionary Housing Payments can be used to address the increased financial pressure facing households due to changes in Welfare Reform subsequently impacting on Housing Benefit.
Council Leader Rhondda Geekie commented: "We welcome any measures that help to address the impact of Welfare Reform on our communities.
"With additional funds now available for out Discretionary Housing Payments, w can now also review how the other resources we have allocated to mitigate the impact of Welfare Reform can be best used, helping us to put support in place where it is most needed."
Councillor Geekie added: "Anyone who feels that Discretionary Housing Payments might them as they adjust to the impacts of Welfare Reform should contact the Council or Citizen's Advice Bureau for advice on the application process, the criteria for an award and details of the information they will need to provide."
