A biscuit maker based in Lanarkshire has said it plans to expand its factory premises.

According to the BBC, the company Border Biscuits, secured "substantial" bank loan facilities.

The firm will now use the money to construct a new warehouse at its existing site in Lanark to increase its storage and improve facilities.

In 2011, the Scottish Government awarded the company £335,000 to fund an extension to the factory and pay for a fully automated biscuit production line, an oven and conveying and packing equipment. The grant was awarded through the Food Processing, Marketing and Co-operation Scheme.

The new line increased the company's volumes meaning they had to store some of its stock outside.

Border Biscuits financial director Caryl Hamilton is quoted by the BBS as saying: "The partnership we have embarked on with Clydesdale Bank will help to transform the business.

"After experiencing strong growth over the last few years, adding space to our Lanarkshire facility is crucial.

"The extra space also gives us the option to expand in the future, without having to worry about where we put any new kit."
