Overnight construction works are to continue on the A82 Pulpit Rock Improvement Scheme.

Work on the £9.2m project will begin on Monday 7 October through to Monday 21 October.

This will be followed by further overnight closures between Monday 4 November and Monday 11 November.

Transport Scotland added that the section of road will be closed at Pulpit Rock, south of Ardlui, between 10pm and 6am each night.

The contractor for the project is McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd, and works will include piling works along the existing road which are needed to support the main structure. Earthworks which enable the sharp bend in the existing road to be smoothed out will also continue.

No significant changes will be made to the landscape, but there will be works to the upper slopes above the existing road as well as a gradual widening of the road.

The A82 will remain open on either side of the closure with diversion routes for through traffic in place.

A spokesperson for the transport authority explained: "These works will play an essential part in providing free-flowing traffic in this part of the A82 as well as opening the road for other users, including cyclists.

"The overnight closures, which have been welcomed by the local community and road users, have been scheduled to minimise impact on local communities, businesses and visitors to this part of the country."
