Dandara Secures Aberdeen Development

Construction News Image
Dandara has said it is to transform a famous Aberdeen landmark into a number of iconic city offices.

The landmark new office complex will help transform the historic Triple Kirks in the heart of Aberdeen city centre.

Developer Dandara is to invest more than £20m into the building, an A-listed former church, which has been derelict since the 1970s. It purchased the site from the Stewart Milne Group.

Plans for the prestigious address, to be branded The Point, were approved by Aberdeen City Council in August 2011.

The Point will provide 72,600sq ft of commercial office space within the footprint of the former North Kirk. Retaining the spire as its focus, the Point will provide seven storeys of grade A open plan office space. The development is the latest significant investment being made in Aberdeen by Dandara, which is creating new communities across the north-east and has established a 250-strong workforce to deliver its projects.

Gavin Wyley, Managing Director of Dandara in Aberdeen, said: "This is another significant step forward for the regeneration of Aberdeen city centre as a prime place to do business, and we are proud to have acquired one of the city's true architectural jewels.

"We plan to begin development very soon and are in a position to move forward quickly thanks to planning permission having already been granted by Aberdeen City Council."

He continued: "By delivering The Point we will create much-needed class-A office space to help re-invigorate the beating heart of the Granite City, and aim to be on-site before the end of the year with a target of completing the building in late 2015."

The original building and its famous spire were completed in 1843, and are regarded as one of legendary city architect Archibald Simpson's finest works.
