West Lothian Council has been given the go ahead to build a new housing with care facility in the centre of Bathgate.

The £6.4m development will offer 30 one-bedroom flats for older people at Rosemount Court, and will also include shared support facilities including a dining area, laundry area, foyer and internal courtyard, hairdressers, multi-purpose rooms and staff facilities.

Currently on site, is a row of three terrraced homes, but these will be demolished to make way for the new project.

Construction work is expected to commence in the autumn.

Danny Logue, West Lothian Council's Executive Councillor for Social Policy, said: "This is an important stage in the process for a new facility which will provide homes and on-site support for vulnerable residents within our communities, including those who are affected by dementia.

"We are committed to improving services for the most vulnerable members of our society and the Rosemount Court facility will offer a range of important care services for residents.

"The layout and design is well conceived and will positively contribute to the local community."
