Work to restore the historic Murray Library in Anstruther, Fife, is continuing to progress, according to the council.

The local authority is one of a number of organisations funding the restoration work at the listed building, and has contributed £200,000 towards the conversion of the former snooker hall into new business units for creative industries. The units will be ready for use by the end of the year and all are expected to be let before they are completed.

The project is part of Fife Council's Anstruther Townscape Heritage Initiative and Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme, which is core funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Scotland.

Councillor Lesley Laird, Fife Council's Executive Member for Business, Enterprise, Economy & Planning, visited the project last week.

She said: "It was great to be able to get a chance to see the work being carried out to bring this historic building back to life. This is an important project for the local community and for Fife too as once completed Anstruther will have a beautifully restored building in the historic conservation area as well as two new facilities to support the tourist economy, local businesses and the local community."
