Strategic Housing Investment Plan Launched

Councillors in Dundee are to hear next week of 32 flats for social rent are to be provided by Hillcrest Housing Association.

The properties in question are located on a site near the Council's west district housing officer at Coupar Angus Road in Lochee.

The development would be facilitated by an additional fund allocation of £1.5m of housing supply subsidy to Dundee Council from the Scottish Government.

A report on the Strategic Housing Investment Plan 2013-18 will be considered on Monday (19 August).

Councillors will hear that the overall Scottish Government affordable housing supply grant of £9m will ensure the provision, up to 2015, of 170 new affordable homes for rent across the city, in Lochee, Mill o Mains and Whitfield.

Housing Convener Councillor John Alexander said: "I am delighted that additional grant from the Scottish Government is allowing us to bring forward the development of much needed high quality social rented housing in Lochee.

"This contributes to the master plan by increasing the number of homes with direct access to the amenities in the High Street.

"This is a significant contribution to the regeneration in Lochee with over £11 million already committed to the modernisation of the 6 multi storeys and low rise blocks in Kirk Street.

"A planning application for the Coupar Angus Road development will be lodged shortly and, subject to planning permission, the development will be completed by March 2015. The flats will be energy efficient, minimising fuel bills for residents."
