New Parking Facilities For Motherwell

North Lanarkshire Council has said a new car park is to be built at Scott Street, Motherwell.

A section of the site, which is located on the former Cathedral Primary School, will be transformed into a 133-space facility.

Contractor, Land Engineering, has been appointed to the project and will commence construction work in September, with the car park expected to open in December.

Councillor James Coyle, Convener of the Council's Planning and Transportation Committee, said: "There is huge demand for car parking in and around Motherwell town centre, so this new facility will be a significant boost for the area.

"Motherwell is popular for shoppers and people using the local amenities including the library, First Stop Shop and Heritage Centre so this car park is ideally placed close to the town centre as well as the train station. It delivers a further investment of £511,000 by the council in the town centre."

Last year, along with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, the local authority opened two new car parks at St Vincent Place and Farm Street.
