Port Glasgow Business Park Receives Boost

Riverside Inverclyde (ri) has commenced work on a £2.5m first phase project of two new design-and-build industrial units.

The units are located at Kelburn Business Park in Port Glasgow and the scheme will see both jobs and training opportunities created within the area.

Kelburn Park is the most easterly situated development area within Inverclyde and has strong transport links with the adjoining A8, providing access to the M8 motorway and Glasgow airport.

Inverclyde Council has said Kelburn Business Park will allow urban regeneration company Riverside Inverclyde to offer high profile, fully serviced flexible industrial spaces with easy access from the A8.

The project will create a high quality business space in appealing surroundings that will attract good quality employers to the area without compromising unit flexibility or access for service vehicles of all types. It will also provide opportunities for local companies and act as a catalyst in attracting investment from beyond Inverclyde.

Construction work on the project is being undertaken by Paisley-based company, Barr Construction, who has created two new trainee roles for the development – one in construction and one in administration.

Inverclyde Council's Environment & Regeneration Convener Councillor Michael McCormick said: "Kelburn Park has huge potential to attract inward investment and much needed employment opportunities so I am delighted work has started on the new units. The site has excellent transport links sitting alongside the A8 and will offer modern facilities in a fabulous location."

Danny Mathieson, Operations Manager at Barr Construction, added: "These new roles are part of our continued commitment to investing in the communities in which we operate.

"Initiatives such as these will enable Barr to make a direct contribution to the Inverclyde area's ongoing regeneration efforts through job creation and by stimulating inward investment through the construction of a modern business campus."

Bill Nicol, Chief Executive of Riverside Inverclyde, concluded: "I am delighted to see another project on site on one of ri's strategic development areas. This project will create modern, flexible industrial space in Inverclyde that will help increase the area's attractiveness as a business location. Up to 47 full time jobs are likely to be created when the first phase is fully occupied along with 24 jobs during construction."
