A skate park and BMX track in Inverness are to be redeveloped after securing a grant from the Big Lottery Fund, the BBC has said.

The site at Bught Park, Inverness, will see £250,000 spent on the facilities to transform it into the Highland Wheeled Sports Hub.

The Highland Skate Park Association has said major improvements are planned for the site, which will be upgraded to a national standard for practice, events and competitions.

Chairman Nigel Campbell is quoted as saying: "We are now close to completing the funding for the new wheeled sports hub.

"Skateboarding and BMX are increasingly popular and, this summer, over 80 youngsters have signed up for our coaching programme.

"Now they can look forward to having exciting new facilities where they can develop their sport."
