Council Calls For Residents' Views

Residents of the Bute area are being encouraged to share their views regarding their community, and in particular, its historic Rothesay Pavilion.

The Council has said this is the largest community engagement programme attempted on the island in recent years.

A £6.9m renovation project has been proposed for Rothesay Pavilion and the next consultation stage is due to begin this month.

With funding from Argyll and Bute Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Scotland, the project presents an opportunity to secure the future of the building for the next 70 years and beyond.

To date, consultation has revealed that local people believe one of the island's key strengths is its creativity, and therefore, the view that Bute should strive for a national reputation as a Creative Place.

As a result, the Rothesay Pavilion Project Steering Group - which includes locals as well as representatives from Argyll and Bute Council and the Prince's Regeneration Trust - wants to hear more from local residents about their ideas for Bute as a hub of creativity.

Project proposals will be taken out into the streets of Bute by local heritage organisation Brandanii in a series of pop-up consultations held in a number of venues, including early-morning ferries and island buses.

The pop-up events will take place throughout the summer.
