East Ayrshire Council has approved plans to revitalise Cumnock Shopping Centre.
The proposals will see the construction of six new retail units on Townhead Street and will replace the Glaisnock Shopping Centre. The move will also allow six of the current eight retailers in the centre to continue to trade.
The plans were approved following a consultation exercise with the community in May.
Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of East Ayrshire Council, welcomed these proposals and said: "Our priority is to ensure the continuation of trading by the owners in a traditional high street environment. The Glaisnock Shopping Centre is well past its sell by date, and the town centre will be revived by its demolition.
"The consequent landscaping of that site, alongside new purpose built shop units, is a strong and clear indication of the Council's continued commitment to regenerating Cumnock and its surrounding communities.
"With this £4m investment in Cumnock, we believe that this significant step, and the plans for that site, will be the catalyst for further development which would see the Cumnock town centre returned to its former glory."
