Springfield Properties has signed a deal with Muirhouse Housing Association to deliver 202 new affordable homes to the Muirhouse region.

According to Scottish Housing News, the project will see both new jobs and skills brought to the local area and will address a cross-section of housing need with a mix of social rent and intermediate tenure mid-market rental.

Phase One of the North Edinburgh project has an estimated value of £6.9m, with 58 properties – both houses and flats – being constructed.

Muirhouse Director, Brenda Toner, said: "We were delighted to be approached by Springfield regarding a development opportunity within our community. We liked their attitude which is very much 'tell us what you need and we will provide it'.

"Springfield's flexible approach to partnership means we are developing new homes within 12 months of beginning negotiations, and the development will be complete within three years."

The homes will be built to Silver Sustainability Standard making them inexpensive for tenants to run.

Springfield hopes to employ local labour and set up local supply chains for the project's sub-contract work. It also aims to have 10% of the workforce apprenticed.
