Plans For Olympian Equestrian Centre To Be Discussed

The Scottish Borders council is to discuss plans for an equestrian centre in the area.

According to the BBC, the plans have been submitted by four-time Olympic medallist Ian Stark.

It is understood Mr Stark wants to build the new centre at Greenhill Farm.

Stark and his wife currently manage a centre at Dryden, near Ashkirk, but it is a leased premises. They now intend to create more modern purpose-built facilities.

The plans are said to include a new indoor riding arena, as well as an outdoor riding arena and floodlights. A cafe and an equestrian equipment sales area is also mentioned as part of the development.

Approval for the initiative has been recommended by planning officials, but there are a number of conditions attached, and include the creation of passing places on the public road from the A7 to the farm junction, rules on disposal of manure and agreements on landscaping.
