Tillydrone Regeneration Plans Unveiled

Proposals for the regeneration of the Tillydrone area of Aberdeen have been unveiled.

The plans were set out in a report before the Council's Housing and Environment Committee on Tuesday.

Regeneration of the area is a key commitment of Aberdeen City Council, and officers have been exploring opportunities to transform Tillydrone.

The initiative includes:

  • An extra care village and community hub

  • Affordable housing on the former St Machar Primary School site

  • Affordable housing on the former Aberdon Care Home site

  • Post-graduate student village and private development with flats

  • New food retail store

  • Parkland and sports facilities

  • Private housing with affordable housing provision

  • District heating scheme serving 470 properties

These projects would complement the existing schemes planned for the area and includes the development of the third Don crossing and the expansion of Riverbank School.

Further work will now be carried out on each proposal before the findings are reported back to the Housing and Environment Committee.

Housing and Environment Convener Councillor Neil Cooney said: "Tillydrone needs to forge a fresh identity and sense of purpose. Improvements in housing, environment and recreational space will have a significant impact on enhancing locals' sense of ownership, pride of place and quality of life.

"The provision of good affordable housing is a fundamental part of creating sustainable communities and demonstrates the Council's commitment to the wider regeneration of Tillydrone and the city. However, alongside this there must be programmes which address skills, training and employment.

"Tillydrone is a fantastic area of the city and we are determined to improve the quality of life of locals while getting more people back into the heart of the community. There is a real will from its residents to improve the physical fabric of the area, and to see an end to the social problems for which it has become known.

"We are taking great strides with our regeneration programmes and it is exciting to see the options and opportunities for Tillydrone being presented.

"I am in no doubt these will improve and enhance community spirit in this popular area of the city."
