Three new wind farms are reported to be planned for different sites in Galloway.

If approved, the proposals would see 38 new turbines constructed and be more than 100 metres in height, the Galloway Gazette has said.

Renewable Energy firm PNE Wind UK is believed to be behind the scheme which would see an 11-turbine wind farm created at Shennanton, as well as further wind farms at Portpatrick and Carsphairn.


The wind farm is currently at the pre-application consultation stage before PNE lodge a planning application with Dumfries and Galloway Council later this year. If the plans are passed, a community trust fund would then be set up by the company.

Construction and the installation of the turbines will begin in 2015 with the view of it being operational the following year.

The other two sites proposed by PNE also include Portpatrick. It would house eight turbines and would be called Larbrax wind farm.

Public exhibitions on the scheme will be held at Portpatrick Village Hall on May 15 from 3pm to 8pm, and at Leswalt Memorial Hall on May 16 from 3pm to 8pm.
