Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) has signed a new £106m contract to extend its repairs and maintenance contract, Scottish Housing News has said.

The contract, which will create 600 jobs, will see almost 70,000 customers benefit from the scheme.

It is understood the GHA will keep its contract with City Building until March 2018.

Since the contract began in 2009, GHA's tenant satisfaction with repairs has increased from 88% to 94%, with the number of complaints halving.

The number of repairs jobs completed on time has also increased from 90% to 98%, and GHA said the decision to extend the contract was as a result of the "steady improvement" in customer satisfaction with their service.

The contract extension will include a number of improvements to the service, including shorter average emergency repair time and increased numbers of repairs appointments kept.

Martin Armstrong, Chief Executive of Wheatley Group, GHA's parent company, said the deal had saved more than £6m.

While GHA Chair Gordon Sloan added that the deal was positive news for the organisation's 43,000 tenants and 24,000 factored homeowners, as well as the hundreds of workers employed on the contract.
