Plans have been approved to build a £22m health centre in East Kilbride.

The new Hunter Health Centre will be build adjacent to the existing building on the site of the current Ballerup car park. Once work is completed, the old building will then be demolished.

It is expected the new building will be five storeys high, with a four storey car park also being constructed.

NHS Lanarkshire said the new facility would enhance patient care in the community with services including six GP practices, one general dental practice, podiatry, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, a community treatment room, phlebotomy, mental health, public health nurses and long-term condition nurses.

The Depute Chair of South Lanarkshire Council, Councillor Jackie Burns, said the project was "fantastic news for the people of East Kilbride."

He added: "NHS Lanarkshire is providing a community facility which will provide first-rate health care. I am delighted that the committee could give this application our approval."
