Demolition Works For Mill o'Mains

The next phase of regeneration at a Dundee housing scheme is expected to move forward next week.

The decision to continue the development work will go ahead if Councillors approve the demolition purchase of 95 properties.

A total of 68 flats and 27 lock-up garages need to be demolished in order to clear the site for new homes to be built as part of the third phase of the Mill o'Mains regeneration scheme.

Dundee City Council has already knocked down 164 flats, many of which were empty, and sold the land to Home Scotland. As a result, this has allowed them to build 134 homes, of which 105 are for social rent, 20 are for mid-market rent and nine are for shared equity.

The council has already knocked down 164 flats, many of which were empty, and sold the land on to Home Scotland which has allowed them to build 134 homes, 105 for social rent, 20 for mid-market rent and nine for shared equity.

Tenants displaced by the demolition, who have all been consulted on the Mill o’Mains regeneration plan, have first call on the new homes when they are built.

The housing committee is expected to look at the issue on 22 April.

John Alexander, Convener of Dundee City Council's Housing Committee said: "Good progress is continuing at Mill o’Mains with houses already built and occupied by satisfied tenants who are helping to breathe new life into this community.

"The work shows our commitment to the regeneration of the area and we are continuing to work with local residents to create the vibrant community that Mill o'Mains deserves.

"This will be the final phase of demolition as we work towards providing new homes with our partners for the people of Mill o’Mains that are warm, energy efficient and secure."
