It is understood plans have been submitted for a new £84m wildlife centre at Cuningar Loop.
The Rutherglen Reformer said Wildside World Ltd were preparing a proposal to South Lanarkshire for an extravagant wildlife visitors centre.
At a closed meeting last week, Jenette Kemp, Head of the Scotland section of Wildside World, revealed the proposals.
In addition to the visitors centre, there would be six restaurants and bars, a gift shop, car park and a hotel, and it is understood up to 250 construction jobs alone would be created by the ambitious project.
The group are currently in talks with Clyde Gateway, who have teamed up with Forestry Commission Scotland to create an urban woodland site on the other land at the Loop.
A pre-planning application has now been lodged with South Lanarkshire Council with the company reportedly looking to start work as early as September.
The public will have a chance to see proposals for the centre at a public consultation in Rutherglen Town Hall on Monday 29 April 29 from 6pm to 9pm and Tuesday 30 April from 2pm to 5pm.
