A new leisure facility is to open in Whitburn, West Lothian this weekend following extensive refurbishment work.

The Xcite Whitburn was previously closed for two years after a fire left the popular venue severely damaged.

A majority of the building had to be subsequently demolished and reconstructed, including the swimming pool hall.

Alongside the hall, the new venue has been fitted out with a new deck level pool, sauna and steam room. There is also a three-tier soft play area, gym, spin studio, fitness class studio and new changing facilities, as well as a teaching pool for young children.

Robin Strang, Chief Executive of Xcite said: "We know that Xcite Whitburn has been sorely missed by the local community and we are absolutely delighted that the new facility will open this weekend. Although we are re-instating the building on a 'like-for-like' basis, we have been able to introduce additional features such as a deck level pool, improved soft play area and views from the reception foyer through to the pool."

The facility will open permanently on Monday 15 April.
