Plans have been revealed which could transform one of Aberdeen's derelict nightclubs into new retail premises.

The plans involve a building on Aberdeen's beach front and will be refurbished into a home and leisure retail store, the Scotsman has reported.

The Amadeus nightclub is located at the city's Queens Links Leisure Park and was the largest in Scotland when it opened in 1997. However, the club was forced to close six years later due to "operational reasons". It has been vacant ever since, and the adjoining Riva bingo hall is also empty after it closed four years ago.

The company behind the project, The Range, is one of Britain's largest DIY, gardening and homeware chains and this would be its first store in Scotland.

The plans include linking the two redundant units together to create a new 60,000sq ft retail store in Aberdeen.

Owned and operated by entrepreneur Chris Dawson, said: "The Queens Links site is a great starting point for us to grow our business in Scotland and in addition to creating a large number of local jobs we are confident The Range will have a positive impact on Aberdeen’s excellent retail sector."
