Argyll and Bute Council has revealed the contractor chosen to transform Helensburgh town centre.

The multi-million pound contract to transform Helensburgh's town centre and the West Bay Esplanade has been awarded to Maclay Civil Engineering Limited.

The Helensburgh CHORD project will see extensive high quality public realm works, soft landscaping, street lighting and public artwork both in the town centre and along the Esplanade. The works will link the Esplanade to the centre and provide better access to the shops, restaurants, café's and bars located there. The works will also see the public toilets and pumping station be refurbished.

Council Leader, James Robb said: "It is an exciting time for Helensburgh and given the scope of the work there will inevitably be some short term disruption. I hope everyone will bear with this for the longer term benefit.

"We will see the benefits of the scheme when the work is finished next year and I am convinced it will make Helensburgh a better place to visit, to live in and to do business in. This is a much needed investment in the town."

Work is expected to begin on site in early May with a completion date for summer 2014.
