Riddoch To Chair Saltire Design Awards

Lesley Riddoch, Scottish broadcaster and journalist, has been selected to guest chair this year's Saltire Society Housing Design Awards.

The chair oversees the jury in their assessment of Scottish housing projects, to select the winner of the Saltire Medal, Building Design has reported.

The post was previously held by architects, including Malcolm Fraser, John McAslan and Dick Cannon.

Speaking of her new post, Ms Riddoch said: "These days great design demands great awareness of the way people really use space. And design covers everything from large tenant-led retro-fitting projects to the tiniest eco-home construction and all points in between."

In addition to Riddoch, Jude Barber, Director of Glasgow-based Collective Architecture, has taken over the convenership of the awards for 2013.

Deadline for award submissions are open until 3rd May, with the awards ceremony being held in September.

Single dwellings in the remote Highlands, to multi-unit developments in the Scotland's busy centres have previously been recognised by the Saltire Awards.
